3 Lifetime Bests for Minns

Swindon Dolphin’s Allan Minns recorded 3 lifetime best performances in the S8 category at the British International Disability Swimming Championships held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield over the weekend. Over 300 swimmers from sixteen countries competed in the event which incorporated the GB selection trials for the Beijing Paralympics, and saw fifteen World, twenty nine European and twenty four British records broken over the heats and finals.

Minns finished fourth, just missing out on the bronze medal, in the 50m freestyle knocking 2 seconds off his personal best time in the process. He also took an incredible 11 seconds off his 100m freestyle time and went one better achieving a 12 second personal best in the 100m backstroke, claiming seventh place finishes in both events.

Coach, Steve Cryer, said he was “delighted with Allan’s accomplishments in this world class competition – I feel if he continues to apply himself and follows the programme set out by the National Performance Director, he is on target for a place in the British 2012 team.”
