And Alex makes Seven

Event: South West Regional BAGCATs Venue: Millfield Date: 12th & 13th June 2010

Last weekend at Millfield, Alex Chantler-Mayne became the seventh Swindon Dolphin this season to achieve a national qualifying time.  The 12 year old was competing as part of a 20 strong squad in the South West Regional BAGCAT Championships and hit the required time in a well paced 1,500m freestyle that also earned him a gold medal.  His 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly earlier on in the meet also came close to the mark, although he did have the consolation of a bronze and silver medal respectively.

Charlotte Pitts was also looking to book her place to Sheffield, and despite silver medals in the 100m, 400m and 1,500m freestyle, could not manage to produce improvements in form already seen over her past few long course meets this year.  Her best chance, however, still lies ahead with the 200m and 800m freestyle next weekend.  Also inching closer towards the national mark was Georgie Pitts who picked up a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle.  All eyes, and stopwatches, will be on next weeks distance freestyle event with this also most likely to be her passport to Ponds Forge.

Making their regional debuts over the weekend were Adam Coleman, Amber Davies, Ben Sarachi, Conor McGilligan, James Chantler-Mayne, James Watson, Matthew Watson, Rebecca Matthews and Samuel Woolford.  All produced personal best swims, with James Watson making the final in the 100m backstroke.  Also making finals were Mathew Sambrook, Victoria Tainty and Lauren Matthews.

Dolphin were well represented in the relay events, with the girls 4 x 200m freestyle team of Georgie Pitts, Victoria Tainty, Lauren Matthews and Abbie Hawkins picking up hard earned silver medals.

The Championships conclude on the 19th & 20th June.
