Dolphin Hit Back to Snatch Last Gasp Draw

Event: Bristol & West Division II League Fixture

Teams: Swindon Dolphin v Weston Super-Mare

Venue: Milton Road Swindon

Date: Sunday 3rd June 2007

Swindon Dolphin left it late but managed to sneak a last gasp draw against a strong Weston side in their latest Bristol and West division two fixture.

The first quarter involved goals being exchanged by both sides. Weston playing slightly better and sneaking a one goal advantage at the end of the period. Dolphin goals came from Matt James, Darryl Pye and David Quinlivan.

In the second period Weston capitalised on a number of individual errors by Dolphin players. It had all started well for the team at the start of the quarter. Michal Trzeciak scored early on to level the match. Two goals each were then exchanged, Andy Snowball and Quinlivan netting for the home side. That was the end of the scoring for Dolphin, Weston on the other hand managed to score four unanswered to lead by ten goals to six at the half way point.

The match returned to a close fought affair in the third period. Again both teams traded strikes on four separate occasions. James Godden, Quinlivan, Trzeciak and James struck for the home side. This meant going into the final period Dolphin trailed by one goal.

Dolphin knew this was an important passage of play and could define the rest of their season. They started quickly with Snowball scoring. Weston scored to extend their lead back to four. Trzeciak scored twice to start the Dolphin come back, James also scored one to leave them trailing by only one with half the quarter left to play. Weston managed a break away goal to extended the lead to two, but Trzeciak and Snowball ensured that the match would be all square with one and a half minutes left. Weston again scored two quick goals, James scored again for Dolphin who trailed with a minute to play. Weston managed to hold on to the ball, but conceded possession, which allowed Dolphin to call a time out. Dolphin set up their play and enabled Quinlivan to work his way free and level the match up again.

The game ended with the scores level at 18 all. Coach David Quinlivan commented after the match that he was proud of the never say die attitude in the team. Although saying that we could still look at it as a point lost as we managed to miss two open goals and had two penalty throws saved.
