Dolphin in the Bay
Event: City of Cardiff Tiger Bay Long Course Open Meet Venue: Cardiff International Pool Date: 10th & 11th April 2010
Last weekend a group of 17 Dolphin swimmers aged 9 to 13 headed to Cardiff International Pool for the City of Cardiff Tiger Bay Long Course Open Meet.
For all swimmers, this was their first experience of long course (50m) competition, although this clearly was not an issue with everyone achieving times faster than their entry times. Rebecca Matthews and Ben Sarachi both reaffirmed their status as Regional standard swimmers, going under the South West qualifying time in the 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle respectively.
Kayleigh Bartlett looks to be making some vast improvements in her freestyle, with impressive swims in both the 100m and 200m events whilst Mya Bell, despite swimming a full range of nine events still managed to make significant improvements in each, in particular the 400m freestyle. Adam Coleman produced some fine 200m swims, coming close again to his elusive first Regional time.
Undoubtedly the top Dolphin performer over the weekend was 9 year old Georgia Dicks who finished the meet with three gold medals and made huge gains against her entry times especially in the longer 200m events. Also picking up medals were Jack Patey (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and Ben Sarachi (1 bronze).
