Date: Mar 2007 Location: Link Centre, Swindon, UK Event: Wiltshire BAGCATS 2007 (25m)

Following two weekends of demanding competition at the 2007 Wiltshire Age Group Championships at the Link Centre, Swindon Dolphin’s young swimmers emerged with 4 British Age Group Category (Bagcats) titles, 123 individual medals (53 Gold, 32 Silver & 38 Bronze), 14 Age Group Best Times (AGBTs), 4 National Qualifying Times (NQTs) and an unprecedented collection of Regional Qualifying Times (RQTs) and personal best (PBs) performances. Dolphin also dominated the relay events.

Lauren Matthews (9) Samantha Berry (10) Jose Prunty (13) & Cathal Westman (13) reached the podium by topping their age groups to secure Bagcat titles while 200m breaststrokers James Clark (12), Cathal Westman and Peter Wasielewski (14) along with Rosie Wells (13) in the 200m backstroke achieved NQT’s. In addition, records tumbled as Samantha Berry, Wasielewski & Westman recorded 3 AGBTs each with Wellsand Katie Carter (11) both securing 2.

In the 9 year old girl’s age group Lauren Matthews was in top form winning gold in the 50 & 200 back and 50 butterfly while Maddie Easter won the 200 individual medley (IM); 50 & 200 freestyle and 200 fly. Lily Waite took silver in the 200 free with Lauren Jolliffe achieving bronze in the 50m brs sprint. For the boys Noah Kirby bagged a 200 brs silver medal and bronze in the 50 brs; 200 free and 100 IM.

Samantha Berry dominated the 10 year girl’s events winning 50 & 200 back; 100 & 200 IM; 50, 100 & 200 fly and 400 free. Charlotte Pitts shared some of the spoils by taking the 50 & 200 free and the 200 brs. For the 10 year old boys Jack Janicki picked up gold in the 50 & 200 back, Niall Westman won silver in the 50 & 200 brs, and CraigLofts took bronze in his favourite 50m free & fly sprints.

Katie Carter lead the way for the 11 year old girls with first places in the 50 & 100 brs and 100 IM with Charlotte Gardo snatching gold in the 200 fly. Megan Jones (12) took silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 50 back. Joe Kerslake (12) won bronze in the boy’s 100 back while Liam Herbert (13) was second in the 100 back and 200 IM before injury brought about a premature end to his campaign.

Dolphin’s 13 year old girls were in blistering form with Jose Prunty, Hayley Innesand Beth Preston completing a 1-2-3 in the 50 & 200 fly. Prunty also got within a second of her NQT for the 400m free in a time of 4.34.52 on her way to gold and her other triumphs included being first in the 200 IM; 100 & 200 free and 100 fly. Rosie Wells was unable to conclude her Bagcats programme due to a more pressing engagement at the British Championships but her backstroke appeared effortless as she cruised to gold in the 50 & 200m events, the latter in a NQT of 2.17.60. Ailie Waite stormed to victory in the 100 IM & won silver and bronze in the 100 & 200 back respectively.

At individual stroke level Dolphin’s best showing came in the breaststroke particularly when James Clarke (12), Cathal Westman (13) and Peter Wasielewski (14) won the 50, 100 & 200m events in their respective age groups with plenty to spare. Wasielewski also won the 100 IM while Westman was first in the 50 fly and 200 free. Tim Berry (14) bounced back from the disappointment of being disqualified in the 200 IM to capture the 400 IM gold in real style. He also prevailed in the 100m fly. Joel Swann (14) continued to keep the Dolphin flag flying when he won the 400 free, took bronze in the 100 free in a time of 1.00.14 and added another bronze in the 400 IM.

The Dolphin relay teams were highly impressive too with the boy’s quartet of Swann, Herbert, Wasielewski & Westman taking the 4 x 100m freestyle pushing Tigersharks A into second place. Herbert (back), Westman (brs), Berry (fly) and Wasielewski (free) then secured the boy’s 4 x100m IM finishing more than 5 seconds ahead of Tigersharks A. The girl’s 4 x 100m IM foursome of Wells (Back), Carter (Brs), Prunty (fly) & Preston (free) also took gold in an AGBT of 4.52.39 with more than 6 seconds in hand over Trowbridge A.
