Sx3 Continue Southern Junior League Campaign

The cream of Swindon’s 9-12 year old swimmers were in action at the weekend in the second round of the Southern Junior League. Swindon Swim Squad’s A team were at Bath Leisure Centre and the B team had the slightly longer trip to Horfield Leisure Centre in Bristol.

With the teams lying in 5th and 9th place in the league, both had their work cut out to ensure a place in the final. The A team’s main opposition on the night turned out to be Southwold who had beaten their B team colleagues in the first round. Revenge was sweet for the A team swimmers and they cruised to victory in the 49 event gala, winning 30 races in all. Top points scorer was the talented Aiko Takahasi with an incredible four individual wins out of four, closely followed by Sami Donmez and Thomas Codling on two wins apiece.

The B team had a tough round finding themselves up against Ferndown who were very impressive in last year’s competition. However, all swimmers dug deep and despite finishing fourth overall managed to pick up six second places along the way, two coming from Ross Kennedy.

Team spirit from both teams was superb, with the recent squad training sessions clearly paying dividends. Round 3 of the competition takes place on 20th June.
